12 Days of... Day 5: Shakespeare Comedies



In 1995, more comedy, at the RSC this time, two of Shakespeare's comedies. First a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". For some reason that play is not a favourite in my mind, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the productions I've seen. All different and all with their own charms. Alex played Oberon, Stella Gonet Titania, and it was a glorious production. Going back to my notes I described it as absolutely magical and sheer poetry. Again the design created this atmosphere, all gorgeous, rich colours in both set and costumes. I loved Alex's performance in this, and the way he interacted with both Titania and Barry Lynch as Puck.

Daniel Evans, who directed Alex in "The Light in the Piazza", played Flute in this production...

From Oberon to Benedick in 1998, "Much Ado About Nothing" at the Barbican with Siobhan Redmond playing Beatrice. Very funny, again, a joy to watch...
