This Is Going To Hurt

Alex will appear in the new BBC series "This Is Going to Hurt", based on the book by Adam Kay. Ben Whishaw is the lead character, junior doctor Adam. Alex plays Mr Lockhart, a consultant and Adam’s domineering boss. More information and the first pictures at BBC Media Centre Thanks to Natasha!

Darkness Rising

Filming has started in Wales on "Darkness Rising", a new Channel 4 drama. Alex is named as one of the cast members. The series stars Mark Rylance and Simon Pegg. Earlier stories, and IMDb have the title of this series as "The Undeclared War", and Alex is said to play a character called David Neal. The six-part series is written and directed by Peter Kosminsky and is said to be about cybersecurity. Some pictures and information on the site at WalesOnline.

Afterplay

Brian Friel's "Afterplay" was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 22 March, starring Alex and Janie Dee. It is still available on the website, until 20 April. To listen go to BBC Radio 4. Thanks to Phil!

Signed Lady in the Van Script

The auction for the script signed by various cast members and offered by Alex to raise money for East Anglia's Children's Hospices is still running. The bid now stands at GBP 225. Bidding closes Sunday evening, December 6. It is also possible to make a donation to the charity if you can't afford to bid on the script. I'm sure Alex will be grateful... Peter Pan

Alex is one of the readers on a new audiobook of Peter Pan. The book was recorded to raise money for the Peter Pan house, a project initiated by Joanna Lumley. More information at: the BBC.

The Forgiven

Alex will appear in "The Forgiven", alongside Matt Smith, Jessica Chastain and Ralph Fiennes. Filming took place in Morocco at the beginning of 2020 but was interrupted by the pandemic. It was resumed recently and is now finished. The film is in post-production.

Lady in the Van Script auctioned for charity

For the celebrity bottom drawer auction Alex says he "has donated "a signed working script of the movie 'The Lady in the Van', in which I play Allan Bennett .... pretty much the whole cast signed it - starting with Maggie Smith, Alan B, Frances de la Tour, Roger Allam, Clare Foy, James Corden and me". The money raised in this charity auction will benefit East Anglia's Children's Hospices. Bidding starts tomorrow, 27 November and ends on Sunday 6 December. Alex talks about his role in the new BBC series Gold Digger:

"I also seem to have been on a bit of a roll playing various forms of sleazebags recently, and Ted was a fresh and new version of that, he is much more complicated than simply being a bad guy. There were moments in the writing that allowed me to understand the complexity of the pain this character was in. He has some serious anger issues but it wasn’t black and white in the scripts, so I felt there was something quite complex to explore within him, which was exciting."
