An Oak Tree

Alex was one of a series of actors appearing with Tim Crouch in his play "An Oak Tree" at the Young Vic. Guest actors appear for one night only, have never seen or read the play, and the audience has no advance knowledge of the guest actor.

On a personal note, I saw this play on consecutive evenings a few years ago at the National's shed, with Jon Heffernan one night and Sam West the next. Same play, two very different performances. I do wonder what Alex was like.

The Phoenician Scheme

Alex plays Broadcloth in the new Wes Anderson film "The Phoenician Scheme". The film was shown at the Cannes film festival.

The Undeclared War

The thriller series "The Undeclared War" will return for a second season on Channel 4. Alex returns as David Neal, the Director of GCHQ. Simon Pegg leads the cast.

The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes

Alex will appear in “Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes” on Disney+. He will play barrister, Michael Mansfield KC, who represents the family of Jean Charles de Menezes at the inquest into his shooting.

The Ballad of a Small Player

Alex is set to appear in a new psychological thriller called "The Ballad of a Small Player" with Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton. Filming took place in Macau. A release date is unclear.

Alex went to Windsor Castle to receive his CBE from King Charles.

Blitz trailer

Blitz

Steve McQueen's Blitz premiered during the Opening Night Gala of the 2024 BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday (October 9) at The Royal Festival Hall in London. Alex attended the premiere. He plays the part of Victor Smythe. The film will be available on Apple+ from November 22.

Shakespeare's First Folio

Alex was one of the actors attending a special event at Grosvenor House in Mayfair to celebrate the 400-year-anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare's First Folio. The event was attended by Queen Camilla. Other actors attending were Brian Cox, Jeremy Irons, Freddie Fox, Robert Lindsay, Sam West, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Patricia Routledge, Harriet Walter and several others.
