Alex also talks about low budget holidays in Greece, family holidays on the Norfolk Broads when he was a child, and more recent stays in north Norfolk. Venice is his favourite place. He also loved Japan: "you’ve got all the shops. I’m so shallow. I really like shopping on holiday, and in Japan I had to buy two new suitcases because I did so much. I collect vintage kimonos, and I bought five. I wear them as dressing gowns."
